By Smita Pal| Some of the best series on Indian television have been viewed by all of us. But, occasionally there are some television shows that get a lot of hype but fade away.
The cast, enormous budget, and intriguing storylines of many previous series generated a lot of buzz, but they ultimately left us disappointed. Despite all the fanfare, a lot of popular television programmes have fallen short of expectations. We will discuss 5 performances that just failed to connect with the audience.
Mithai – Debattama Saha and Aashish Bhardhwaj’s Mithai, a remake of a superhit Bengali serial of the same name that topped Bengal’s TRP charts 56 times consecutively and has always been a slot leader, had a grand launch on Zee TV by playing Vrindavan style “Phoolon Ki Holi” with the media fraternity. Mithai is the story of a bubbly and chirpy sweet-maker, whose name is “Mithai,” and her way of living life to the fullest.
Sadly, Mithai did not have the same level of success as its original version and ended after only 149 episodes, but the original one thrived and is presently in its 767th episode.
Rabb Se Hai Dua – Karanvir Sharma and Aditi Sharma’s most anticipated show on Zee TV failed to impress the audience. The plot of the serial Rab Se Hai Dua is eye-opening for sections of society in which people in positions of power manipulate the scriptures for their own benefit and attempt to suppress the weaker.
In the past, Zee TV has had successful shows on Muslim backgrounds titled “Qubool Hai” and “Ishq Subhan Allah.” Karan Singh Grover, Surbhi Jyoti, Adnan Khan, and Eisha Singh became overnight celebrities. However, Rabb Se Hai Dua had no takers because it struggled to keep the audience’s interest early on.
Rajjo – Rajveer Singh and Celesti Bairagey starrer Rajjo was Star Plus’s biggest bet and was a remake of the Bengali show Aalta Phoring. The show’s blend of athletics, drama, and romance was a breath of fresh air. Rajjo, though started on a good note with 1.1 trp, unfortunately couldn’t survive the pressure. And now everything is falling apart at the trp table. The originals continue to impress the audience and currently clock in at 400 episodes.
Sherdil Shergil – Surbhi Chandna and Dheeraj Dhoopar, two television industry celebrities that Sherdil Shergill brought together, fell flat with the viewers. After Dhoopar’s departure from Kundali Bhagya, Sherdil Shergill promised a lot of freshness, and fans were eager to see the new combo. But unfortunately, the audience decided to give it a thumbs down, and the show was wrapped up with merely 95 episodes.
Channa Mereya – The show Channa Mereya and Karan Wahi’s return to television after a five-year hiatus from fiction series were Star Bharat’s largest gamble. The fans enjoyed Niyati Fatnani and Karan Wahi’s new chemistry, and Channa Mereya was a breath of fresh air amid other TV shows with strong content, but it was unable to break through in the TRP game and was cancelled after just 110 episodes.
