By Anil Merani: Although we recently reported that Colors TV had pulled the plug on Zain Imam and Ashnoor Kaur-led Suman Indori (LSD films) due to low TRP.
Despite the announced last day of the shoot and telecast, producer Prateek Sharma’s unwavering determination to convince Colors TV to extend the show’s run is a beacon of hope for Suman Indori fans.
To be fair to Prateek, the early evening 6.30 pm slot is relatively weak, and a rating of around 1 is no mean feat. “Most competition shows are not doing any better, “added Angad Hasija, who has just entered Suman Indori as the new parallel lead Vikram.
The assumption that the leap has failed seems too harsh given that the 5-year time jump has just unfolded, and any objective assessment should ideally be given some time.
Given the dynamic nature of the TV industry, where decisions are often reversed, there is a real possibility that Suman Indori might be given a second chance, offering a ray of hope to its fans.
Such ad-hoc measures create situations where tracks get entirely changed. No wonder the ongoing political track in the show has been altered to a dangal face-off between Suman (Ashnoor Kaur) and Devika (Anita Hassanandani)
The makers may feel that such a clash brings fresh viewers into the show.
On the flip side, existing viewers might jump ship feeling short-changed
they had signed up for a cerebral political contest, not a wresting mat.
It’s important to empathize with the creative team, who are under immense pressure to adapt the show’s DNA and create new tracks at short notice, a task that is far from easy.
But sadly, this is how our desi TV cookie crumbles. Some bizarre experiments in the past, like makhi in Sasural Simar Ka, had worked wonders so that Prateek ji would hope for an encore.
We must keep an eye on the Suman Indori rating over the next week.
What will give hope to LSD is that in the past, Colors TV has changed its off-air decision at the eleventh hour.
