Anuj Sachdeva: I have become more like my father now

While actor Anuj Sachdeva and his father never really shared a relationship that involved a lot of words, their relationship has always been one which was full of love and comfort. Talking about their relationship, Anuj says, “My father is not verbal about his emotions. As usual, you see men are not that verbal in what they would like to share, especially fathers about how they feel about their sons. But there are always two to three conversations that matter a lot like, ‘How are you?’, ‘What’s happening?’, ‘Did you eat?’, ‘How’s work going?’, ‘How is your health?’. So, these are the questions I usually get to hear, but there’s a lot under the line that every father-son relationship has. Our relationship is similar to how people usually have with their father. He has always been the stepping stone in my career due to the logic that he used to share earlier. My thought and way of thinking has never matched with my father, to be honest. But that’s how it is mostly, being a teenager and the generation gap that you always have. My father has always believed in striving very hard and doing it from the scratch and that’s what made me who I am today.”

He adds, “His way of working, his ideology is what I follow now. That’s how I have become more like my father. I look a lot like my father (laughs). My father was very strict with everyone but not with me (laughs) because I was a rebellious child. But when he gets angry, he won’t even think twice about what he is doing. And I would always end up poking him to the level where he gets angry. Both of us were short-tempered during that time when I was in Delhi. Now, he has become very calm with age. And of course, he has become the kind of person who will listen to you.”

Talking about what he has learnt from his father, Anuj says, “We have a family business and he taught me how important cleanliness is in your office. I learnt that on my first day. I remember doing that in my initial days when I was not an actor and was working with him. If I work well, he would feel so proud. I remember him talking about how his clients would talk about my shows. For him, I’m not working if I am not doing television(laughs). He doesn’t believe in web series or other shows. Things became different as I started valuing what he used to say when I was away from him because I moved to Mumbai in 2008 from Delhi. I realized so much from my hustle every day.”
