Navratri and Durga Puja festivities are in full swing everywhere, and amidst this joyful atmosphere, actress Jaya Bhattacharya, who plays the character Urmila in Sun Neo’s show Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya, has shared her thoughts on the significance of Goddess Durga in her life.
Reflecting on her personal connection with Durga Maa, Jaya Bhattacharya said, “I was born on the first day of Durga Puja, so my family didn’t have to search for a name—they simply chose another name of Durga and named me Jaya. According to the lunar calendar, my birth coincides with the beginning of Durga Puja.
I have always felt a deep connection to the forms of Durga and Kali, with their embodiments of immense power. I admire their strength, ability to fight against injustice, and unwavering determination to emerge victorious. They represent a sense of complete confidence and self-assurance.”
Revealing how she celebrates the festival, the Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya actress shared, “I am not deeply involved in rituals and ceremonies, but I firmly believe in the power of karma. I make it a point to live by my actions, always striving to do what’s right. I never intentionally cause harm to anyone—whether it’s to humans or animals.
I try to help those in need whenever I can, no matter who they are. Another core principle I follow is never abandoning the weak. I don’t step on others to pave my own path. This sense of positivity and fairness is something I inherited from my father, and I’m immensely proud of that legacy.”
Jaya Bhattacharya portrays Urmila, the stepmother of Kartik (Ashish Dixit), who harbors a secret agenda against her family. Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya is a touching family drama that centers around Vaishnavi (played by Brinda Dahal), an orphan who deeply honors Chhathi Maiyya as her mother.
Tune in to Sun Neo to watch Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya every Monday to Saturday at 7 PM.
