Communal tensions penetrating the entertainment industry also.

By Anil Merani: Rising political and communal tensions in our country are creating deep rifts. Social media has become a battleground filled with arguments, insults, and harmful interfaith stereotypes.

While many in our entertainment industry have remained insulated from this turmoil, a troubling surge of propaganda films has thrust sectarian tensions into the spotlight. One glaring example is the online harassment faced by Sonakshi Sinha and her husband, Zaheer Iqbal, for their inter-community marriage.

Another instance that underscores this issue is a video featuring Sambhavna Seth and Sana Khan, which suggested that Sana was pressuring Sambhavna to wear a salwar kameez and a burqa. This clip, part of a podcast, was misinterpreted and sensationalized by a segment of the media without proper investigation, leading to a swift and hostile reaction from fans. Sana was on the receiving end of backlash for supposedly imposing her religious views on Sambhavna.

In light of the sensitivity surrounding such matters, it is crucial for the media to engage both parties before broadcasting a story. Thankfully, before tensions could escalate, Sambhavna stepped forward to clarify that no communal insult was intended, asserting that what viewers witnessed in the video was merely an expression of friendship.

We owe Sambhavna our gratitude for her timely clarification, as we want to avoid further inflaming Hindu-Muslim tensions that could disrupt our fragile unity. Our industry is already contending with numerous internal challenges.

I urge fans to exercise restraint before jumping to conclusions. The media often sensationalizes stories for ratings, making it all the more important to refrain from making inflammatory comments without full knowledge of the facts.

Let us not allow politicians and troublemakers to sow discord among us.

I take immense pride in being a part of an industry that champions secularism, where our primary focus is creativity and collaboration. Together, we can foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding, free from the shadows of division and animosity.
