By Anil Merani: Gaurav Khanna, who has officially exited Star Plus show Anupamaa, has opened up cryptically about his cold equation with Anupamaa co-star Rupali Ganguly.
He said in an interview with ETimes. “I don’t engage in retaliatory interviews or respond to rumours. What matters is the work we’ve created together. I’ve always focused on my craft, and what happens beyond the ‘action’ and ‘cut’ is secondary. Being friends with your co-actors can help, but it’s not essential for delivering impactful performances. Acting, like cricket, may involve teamwork, but at the end of the day, your individual effort and preparation matter most.”
If you read between the lines, Gaurav, who played Anuj, has accepted that things are not good between Rupali and him, and he has indirectly accused her of taking potshots at him via the media. The media has been abuzz with news that the two can’t see eye to eye on set. But yes, no one said that these differences ever affected output. Understanding the immense responsibility of leading India’s numero show, Gaurav and Rupali, kept their differences of the set, and delivered what was expected of them. Neither of them majorly tried to bring down the other in a manner which hurt the show, and often, rivals do
Gaurav mentioned the same point in his reply above.
Since the show was unaffected, no one on set was bothered about what r went wrong, understanding that ego issues often act as a spoilsport. Interestingly, at first, Rupali and Gaurav were good friends and did a lot of reels together.
However, as per the source, differences started simmering between the two as the show began to gain popularity. No actor worth his salt would like to share fame, and this is what happened to both of them. Ironically, both failed to realize that Anupamaa was teamwork and the (Anupamaa and Anuj) Jodi could not have succeeded had they underperformed.
Being insecure, both started to keep thier distance; once communication broke down, things began to go downhill.
As often happens, friends on both sides push the divide further to push their respective agendas.
With Gaurav Khanna’s journey on Anupamaa ending, the question arises: can a détente now happen? As talented actors, there’s a possibility that they may set aside their differences and collaborate for something even better in the future.
