Exclusive: Its late-night slot killed Keh Doon Tumhein – Mudit Nayar.

By Anil Merani: Mudit Nayar, who will soon enter Sony Television Kavya Ek Jazbaa Ek Junoon, is not confident that TV content is changing. The backdrop of Kavya goes against the TV grain, IAS, though.

“The maturity you discuss can only happen once the audience tires of saas-bahu and home politics. Given the fresh ideas that have abounded in OTT over the past decade, things should change. Here, I don’t blame the TV makers or the writers for catering to the masses; this is a business at the end of the day.”

Mudit’s disillusionment is unsurprising, for his last Star Plus show, Keh Doon Tumhein pushed the content envelope.

“Any actor would have given an arm and leg for this role of a split personality killer. Unfortunately, the audience did not warm up to the show. Maybe it was too dark for the TV audience, and its late night 11 pm slot killed the show; this was crucial given that fresh episodes drop online at 7 am.”

“Here I doff my hat to Sony, who have alway played around with differentiated content, keeping its discerning audience in mind. I also played a deaf and mute guy in my last outing with them in Ishaaron Ishaaron Mein.”

Talking about his character in Kavya, he says, “Commoner Vicky acts as an emotional anchor for  Kavya as she treads her administrative political path. “Right now, there is no romantic angle between them. ” However, he does not rule out any future love triangle involving  Kavya, Adi (Mishkat Varma) and Vicky. He is ready to be trolled for the same, “obviously, the fans who have been loving the original jodi will not like anyone coming between them.” says Mudit

Most TV actors don’t follow the tube, and Mudit openly admits that he has not seen any episodes of Kavya before. ” I prefer to go with a clean slate as if you follow; then you start having your ideas, which might not fit the creative team’s viion,” says he

Kavya is the first time Mudit has entered a set show. “Until now, I have always preferred a fresh show. But DJ insisted I drop down for a narration, and the story bowled me over.”

There might be challenges to the late entry in Kavya, which I will cross once we reach the bridge.”

Mudit admits that his career could have seen better numbers, considering his roles in Palampur Express, Anamika, and Badi Devrani. This honesty about his career journey is refreshing.

Beyond TV, Mudit harbours ambitions for the big screen and OTT platforms. He acknowledges that his TV tag might pose a challenge, but his confidence in crossing over is unwavering, especially with his additional role as a writer.
