Exclusive: Jamai No. 1 is not your typical saas-bahu drama – Abhishek Malik

By Anil Merani: Talented actor Abhishek Malik is very excited about the prospects of his new Zee TV show, Jamai No 1. ” Getting a male-oriented lead is a big deal on TV.”

“Neel Paranjape is a kickass character who keeps his wife and mother-in-law in check, for they mistreat him. Typically, ghar jamais are not much respected in Indian society,” added Abhishek

“Neel is a symbol of a strong value system. His determination to stand up for himself and others is truly inspiring.”

“What works for Jamai No.  1 is that it is not your typical saas-bahu with the husband sitting holding his head in his hands. Here, he calls the shots.”

“My character will inspire other men bossed around by their families to speak their minds. Society also needs to let men speak.”

Abishek is confident about Jamai’ No 1 prospects.”” It is masala entertainment, i.e.drama, romance, and personality clashes.”

He said about the casting process, “It took some time. I went through the casting process and gave my audition. While I was quickly selected, the makers were unsure about the female lead. I gave about 10 mock shoots with other actresses before Simaran Kaur was pencilled in as the female lead Riddi.”

Abishek has had a strong run in the industry (Chhal – Sheh Aur Maat)

Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan and Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum, but had not been able to get a main lead, “I wanted to change my game; hence, I waited for a while after quitting Kumkum Bhagya.”   Neel had a good equation with Balaji doing Bhagyalaxmi and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.

“As an actor, I am adding moral turpitude to the character.   Neel and I have quite similar Indian upbringings. But yes, he is vocal while I keep my views to myself.”

Abishek is hitting off very well with his Jamai No 1 co-stars” Simaran Kaur and I jell well-being Delhi  Punjabis. I respect Papiya Sengupta, ma’am, who plays my Mother-in-law because she is a very talented senior.   I also enjoy spending time with the lady who plays my nani(maternal grandmother).”

“I have worked on several sets, and most have their fair share of troubles, but this is like a home away from home. Everyone is chilled out and knows what to do. There is excellent professional cooperation, and credit to LSD for putting together a great team. “

Here, Abishek admits that no matter how much hard work you can put in, “At the end of the day, you are judged only on your numbers, And the ratings is one beast, which is beyond the control of any actor or producer. I just put in my 200% and leave the rest to rest. We are a bit below par given winter, but things will even out.  ” ended he.
