Exclusive| Naman Shaw is happy to play an anti-hero

Actor Naman Shaw is returning to the screen after a long gap with the color TV show Mangal Lakshmi. Talking about the show and his character, Naman said in an exclusive interview that people will fall for the character. Learn more about Naman’s upcoming show, the OTT journey, and more.

1. How has it been getting back on sets of Mangal Lakshmi?

I am ecstatic about being back on the sets. I couldn’t have asked for a better comeback. Other commitments had kept me busy for the last 6 years, but now I am back doing what I love the most.

2. What made you take up this show?

I think I was destined to do this show. Everything fell into place smoothly. I am getting an opportunity to play an anti-hero, a character that I have never done before, as I have always been the good mummas boy in all my shows. Colors is a great channel to work with. The makers at Panorama are seasoned and experienced makers; what else can I ask for. Working with the best in the business.

3. You have been choosy about your projects, so do we have any on OTT as well?

Well, I did one show on OTT as an actor called Flip on Eros now, by critics, it’s called the “black mirror” of India. Post that I got busy with producing and developing shows on OTT.

4. Being in the industry, you have always maintained a low profile. Do you think that is a takeaway considering, as an actor, you need to be there all the time ?

I am a shy guy and an extremely introverted person, and that’s why I have always maintained a low profile, but now I have realized the power of marketing, PR, and being out there, and from this show, I will be more forthcoming.

5. How is your working equation with Deepika Singh?

Oh, we have a great equation; she is all heart. People are going to fall in love with her in mangal Lakshmi; she is a fabulous actor.

6. How close is this character to you in real life ?

Ha ha ha (I can’t stop laughing). The character is not at all close to me; in fact, it’s totally opposite to my real life. I would be thrown out of the house if I behaved anywhere close to the character I play in the show.

7. We hear you are also looking into production; seriously, please tell us a little about it as well.

I love this industry. I have always been intrigued by the various aspects of filmmaking, not just in front of the camera but also behind the camera, and that prompted me to get into production. Today I am much more secure financially and mentally, knowing that I have a backup. Yes, we have already produced a couple of films and good shows for Ott, including Bejoy Nambiar, Mani Ratnam, and the T series. I love the whole process of filmmaking. Creatively, I am inclined towards it.
