Half-Indian Hollywood actress, Naomi Scott, shone last year in the Parker Finn-directed horror movie Smile 2, and the 32-year-old would welcome appearing in a third iteration of the movie franchise.

When quizzed by Shortlist on the likelihood of a third Smile movie, Scott admitted she had “no idea” of the plans for the franchise, insisting those kinds of decisions were “above her pay grade”. However, she did acknowledge that the finale of Smile 2 did tee up some “very, very fun and interesting” potential storylines.

Smile 2 was a chilling box office hit

Smile 2 was released prior to Halloween 2024 and ended up grossing $138.1m worldwide, a handsome return from a budget of just $28m. Film critics were hot on the performance of Scott as Skye Riley, with Rotten Tomatoes describing her role as a “nerve-jangling star turn”.

Scott won Best Performance in a Horror or Thriller at The Astra Awards and was nominated for Best Actress following her role in Smile 2. In her interview with Shortlist, Scott said she’d always been a fan of Parker Finn and was keen to work with him after watching his short movie, Laura Hasn’t Slept, released in 2020. Scott said there was an instant “connection” between the two when they discussed the script, and she immediately fell for the role of Skye and who she represented.

It’s a far cry from some of her previous big-screen appearances, including performances in Charlie’s Angels, Power Rangers, not to mention being cast in Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin in 2019.

Scott’s role in Aladdin as Princess Jasmin catapulted her into a new stratosphere, with her and Will Smith (Genie) proving the most inspired picks by Ritchie. Eyebrows were raised when Guy Ritchie was selected to do a Disney adaptation of the Middle Eastern classic, but there’s no doubt that this part of the world is proving increasingly enchanting in the entertainment world. The Aladdin-inspired Genie’s Arabian Riches is one of the newest releases at online bingo platform Buzz Bingo, which is further proof of the region’s appeal. It stands alongside classic slot themes like Irish folklore, the US ‘Gold Rush’ and other pop culture classics like 1980s grower, The Goonies.

After a busy 2024 in Distant and Smile 2, Scott is also appearing in two upcoming movie releases, both of which are in post-production. In fact, Scott is part-producing and starring in her own movie called Eternal Return. The epic romance, directed and written by Yaniv Raz, sees Scott play the role of Cass, a woman travelling back in time to recapture her ability to love. Eternal Return also stars British actor, Kit Harrington, of Game of Thrones fame.

Scott is also cast in David Michod’s stoner comedy film, Wizards!, starring Pete Davidson and Franz Rogowski. In June 2022, it was confirmed that Orlando Bloom would also join Scott, Davidson and Rogowski on the cast list. The movie was shot in Queensland and Cape Tribulation. It follows two luckless beach bar owners that come across hidden valuables that they eventually wished they’d never seen.Away from the big screen, Scott is also a musician and is booked to perform a live set at this year’s Lollapalooza music festival in the US, staged at Grant Park in Chicago.
