By Anil Merani: The current track of Subhaan (Dheeraj Dhoopar) wanting to marry sisters Ibaadat (Yesha Rughani) and Mannat (Seerat Kapoor) has sparked a heated debate among the fans of Zee TV Muslim social Rabb Se Hai Dua. Many are expressing their concerns about the portrayal of this situation as unIslamic.
This Prateek Sharma production has always had polygamy as its main theme, in the first season we had Karanvir Sharma (Haider) marrying Aditi Sharma (Dua), and Richa Rathore (Ghazal)
Now, in season 2, Subhaan wants to marry Ibaadat and Mannat. Unfortunately, this has raised the ire of some fans who say it is unIslamic for a man to marry two sisters, be it a real sister or step sister as in the case of Ibaadat and Mannat, who share a typical father (Haider), but separate mothers (Dua and Ghazal)
In the current track, Subhaan, already married to Ibadat, also wants to wed her sister, as he loves her. (A lot of drama accompanied Subhaan ‘s marriage to Ibdadat as well)
Fans have been vocal about their concerns, noting that such a practice is unIslamic and should not be glorified in the show.
On the broad topic of polygamy, fans also feel that although it is legal for Muslim men to have more than one wife, they do not bother to fulfil the underlying criteria. Men who desire more than one woman misuse religious edicts
Polygamy is already in the news, given that Armaan Malik entered Big Boss OTT 3 with his two wives, Payal and Kritika.
Ironically, when season 2 started, the makers had spent a good time explaining the reason why Islam allows polygamy in the first place, but now the track goes down to mundane ego and love triangle issues
It’s disappointing that desi Muslim series seems to be stuck on the theme of polygamy when there are numerous other important issues facing the community.
We tried to reach out to the producer Prateek Sharma and lead actor Yesha Rughani but could not get through to them.
