Starring Karan Vir Sharma and Debattama Saha in the lead Star Plus launched new show ‘Shaurya Aur Anokhi Ki Kahani’. The show is produced under the banner of DJ’s a Creative Unit and focuses on the ‘gender equality’ concept. The show has a ‘gripping narrative’ yet plot is not new because earlier too shows on Indian Television was made on ‘women empowerment’, here in ‘Shaurya Aur Anokhi Ki Kahani’ twisted word is ‘gender equality’. Karan Vir Sharma’s character in the show is too flawed to handle but rough hero is the new attraction for the audience nowadays. Coming to Debattama Shah’s character, Anokhi is faultless girl who has her voice and she is brave enough to fight for her dreams. (I strongly don’t want her to be an extra-obedient ‘daughter-in law’ who bears all the torcher by in-laws in the story ahead), as it is seen female leads of Indian Television starts their journey on confident note and later lose their charm of boldness for the sake of their family. No, i am not saying girl should disrespect their family but should atleast speak against the wrong.
Show story starts with Anokhi struggling to catch the running train. She manages to jump in the running train. Her dreamy eyes has some another level sparkle post she catches the train on time. But the sequence turned out be ‘Anokhi’s’ dream. She wakes up hearing the whistle of the train. Anokhi’s mother is introduced who asks her to get ready. Anokhi tell her mother about ‘Youth debate competition’. Her mother fears her father. Anokhi asks her mother to stop fearing him. She adds winning the competition is important for her further studies. In the parallel scene, Anokhi’s father is shown, who is a ticket collector. He catches girl and boy together in a train and drags them out from the train. Mr. Bhalla too keeps regressive thinking and accuses the girl for flaunting her picture on social media and inviting boys. Ahead, Anokhi hides from her father and board the college bus.
In the next scene, Shaurya and his family are introduced. The Sabherwals were introduced in the typical Indian daily soap classy style. The big fat family of ‘Shaurya’ gets ready for his engagement ceremony. Sabherwals too keep regressive thinking. Shaurya’s father has no gut to raise his voice against his elder brother and sister-in law. Alka Kaushal’s character dominates Sabherwals along with Shaurya. Shaurya has hatred for his mother because she left him to build her career. Thus, he is close to Alka Kaushal’s character.

Afterwards, Anokhi’s teacher Aastha motivates Anokhi for the debate. The debate on ‘gender equality’ starts. A boy out there speaks in favour of men and berates women in his speech. Other side, Shagun who is going to be Shaurya’s fiancé, reveals that she got an opportunity to complete her further studies from Cambridge College, London. Shaurya who keep regressive thinking about girl’s education opposes the decision of Shagun to accept the offer. In the parallel scene, Anokhi’s speech on girl’s education/ women empowerment; captivate the audience in the hall. Shaurya question Shagun when she is getting an opportunity to become daughter-in law of Sabherwals, than why she wants to go to Cambridge? He asks Shagun to choose between him and Cambridge as he already told her that he wants a housewife. Shagun stands shocked. Other side, Anokhi question why it is always said ‘behind every successful man there is a woman’ and not vice versa. She adds because this is impossible as complaint word is meant for only women. Anokhi concludes her speech and reveals that she wants to make her own identity in this society. Post, Anokhi’s speech, each one out there at auditorium applauds for her.

Meanwhile, Mr.Bhalla looks for a groom for Anokhi. He regrets that he has a daughter.

Show ‘Shaurya Aur Anokhi Ki Kahani’ has a gripping narrative but concept on women empowerment or girl’s education is not new. Boy like Shaurya still exists in the society but television is not witnessing ‘Shaurya’ for the first time. No denial that the star cast of the show will pull the TRP on the prime time slot of 7 PM. Right from Karan Vir Sharma, Debattama Saha, Khalid Siddiqui to Alka Kaushal; actors are bringing life to their characters. But in my view: girls today are not suffering from gender inequality maybe somewhere such biasness exists. Inspite of that right from politics, sport to more categories; girls are ruling the world!
